College Football Top 20

College Football begins one week from Thursday. Here is my pre-season top 20.

1. Florida
The entire defense returns and I am told that their QB (Tebow?) is a decent player.

2. Texas
The Big 12 is way down this season. If the Longhorns beat OU in Dallas, they will have an easy toad to Pasadena.

3. OU
OU must replace 4 starters on the offensive line. Gerald McCoy returns to anchor the defense, but the health of LB Ryan Reynolds will have more of an impact on their season.

4. Alabama
Greg McElroy might actually be an upgrade at QB. He will enjoy targeting Julio Jones. Javier Arenas returns to boost the secondary and return game.

5. California
The nation's best RB (Jahvid Best) returns behind a veteran OL. The Cal defense is scary good. While USC's roster might be deeper, Cal's stability at QB and on the lines will be the difference in a slight upset in the Pac 10.

6. USC
Starting a freshman QB in Columbus, Ohio at night is no picnic. The defense must replace their top 4 LB's.

7. Virginia Tech
The Hokies lost RB Darren Evans for the season, but have never had any trouble finding capable RB's. The defense and Special Teams are as usual, superb.

8. Ole Miss
Jevan Snead may end up being drafted ahead of his former teammate who beat him out for the UT job. Patrick Trahan is the nasty leader of an underrated LB group.

9. Georgia Tech
You try preparing for the triple option on a week's notice. The pass happy college football revolution has made Paul Johnson's offense doubly difficult to defend.

10. LSU
I bet LSU does not throw 7 pick 6 INT's this season. John Chavis comes in as DC following some outstanding work with UT-Knoxville.

11. Oregon
Chip Kelly takes over for the retiring Mike Belotti. The offense will continue to score by the bushel.

12. Penn State
Daryl Clark and Evan Royster form the best QB/RB combination in college football. Sean Lee is back from a knee injury to bolster the LB's.

13. Ohio State
Terell Pryor is under a ton of pressure to improve because there does not appear to be a top notch RB on campus.

14. Boise State
Kellen Moore set all kinds of records as a freshman. If the Broncos win their opener vs Oregon, they will be favored to go 13-0.

15. Oklahoma State
I'm not drinking the Cowboy Kool-Aid just yet. I have a feeling the Georgia Bulldogs DL might have a rude awakening in-store for Mike Gundy's crew.

16. Georgia
Defensively gifted/Offensively challenged

17. UNC
Butch Davis' outstanding recruiting is starting to pay off. Defensive speed alone puts this team in the top 20.

18. Oregon State
What will the Rogers bros do for an encore?

19. Nebraska
The best of a sorry lot in the Big 12 North.

20. TCU
Jerry Hughes is a future star 3-4 OLB in the NFL. Tons of experience returns on offense.

The Miami Hurricanes appear to be in some serious trouble this year. The team saw its only experienced backup QB's (Taylor Cook and Cannon Smith) transfer on Tuesday, one day after head coach Randy Shannon said he was re-opening the competition to be Jacory Harris' backup.
Former Hightower Hurricane QB AJ Highsmith, a true freshman, will now be the backup QB. The Canes have by far the hardest opening schedule in college football: @FSU, G-Tech, @Virginia Tech, OU.
