If you see Longhorns' QB Colt McCoy on 6th Street (yeah right), make sure he buys you and your buddies a round of drinks. McCoy and his family have bought a lucrative insurance policy against a career threatening injury for the Senior signal caller. If Colt were to go down long term this season, he would have to "settle" for between $3-$5 million. Sooners QB Sam Bradford has a similar policy.

Chalk up another former World Champion Boxer to the Summer of Celebrity Death. Two time World Champion Vernon Forrest was shot 7 times and killed while attempting to thwart a car-jacking in Atlanta Georgia. Forrest is probably best knows for his two decisive victories over "Sugar" Shane Mosely, and his exciting slug-fest losses to Ricardo Mayorga. Forrest joins Alexis Arguello and Arturro Gatti on boxing's Summer RIP list.

Oh wait he does? Terrance Broadway, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana has me giddy. Two more years of the great, Case Keenum, and then a seamless transition to the uber-talented Broadway. When's the last time UH beat out Alabama, Nebraska, and Oregon for a recruit?

Speaking of UH, the Cougars are the heavy favorites to appear in the C-USA championship game this season. Houston received 22 of 24 1st place votes to win the Western Division of CUSA. East Carolina received 20 of 24 votes on the eastern side of the conference. UH is a slight favorite to win the Conference entirely by an 11-10 vote edge over East Carolina.

The Astros dropped two out of three to a horrific and injured NY Mets team. Luckily the Cardinals were also losing to the Phillies, so the Astros now trail the Cubs with the Cardinals closely behing in 2nd place. This week is essentially a season long measuring stick. The Astros get 4 with the 1st place Cubs at Wrigley Field and 3 with the Cardinals in St. Louis. The 'Stros will pitch both Roy Oswalt and Wandy Rodriguez in both series. Anything less than 3 wins and we can quit talking up the 2nd half 'Stros. The Cardinals will be playing the NL best Dodgers while Houston and Chicago are squaring off, so there really is room for both teams to gain ground on the NL Central.
