So What Did I Miss?

These two guys will be teammates next season.  Brad Miller was the last of a three man spending spree by Rockets GM Daryl Morey. Miller agreed to a three-year, US$15-million contract with the Rockets.

Miller averaged 8.8 points and 4.9 rebounds for Chicago last season. Miller played in Sacramento from 2003-09, including three seasons playing for current Houston coach Rick Adelman. I'm not sure what Miller has left in the tank, but he should have a small learning curve having run the Adelman offense before.  Kyle Lowry is a backup PG making $6 million a year.  Miller makes $5 million and Luis Scola is pulling in $9 million a season.  No one can ever accuse Les Alexander of being cheap.  The Rockets will be far into the luxury tax next season.

Rockets 1st round pick Patrick Patterson was a guest columnist for SI.com on Monday.  Here's what he had to say. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/patrick_patterson/07/18/diary.4/index.html?eref=sihp

I can't say I was thrilled with the hiring of Jeff Bagwell as the hitting coach.  It's nothing personal against Bagwell, but it smacks of an organization that is so lost they think the fans will stand up and applaud the change of a hitting coach.  Bagwell can't make Berkman and Lee good again, and he can't make young players who have no pedigree for hitting, suddenly hit .300.

Football Outsiders Bill Barnwell says your Houston Texans have the most talent under the age of 25 in the NFL.  It's an interesting theory up to the point where the author tauts the Texans "troika of young running backs, led by Steve Slaton".  Slaton is coming off an injury plagued season while Ben Tate and Arian Foster have proved nothing.  I also would not want to claim Amobi Okoye as an emerging star.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. wanted "No Mas" of Manny Pacquio....at least for now...unless you hear his side of the story. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=5389717

I don't pretend to be a hockey expert, but how can ANYONE sign a 17 year deal to play Hockey?

A tale of two Houston QB's...Former Oilers QB Billy Joe Tolliver won his 3rd Lake Tahoe Celebrity Golf Tourney.  Current Texans QB Matt Schaub finished 76th.  Rockets Forward Shane Battier finished 78th.  Lou Holtz was a quitter and finished behing Charles Barkley who was technically dead last at 82nd.
Billie Joe still in football playing shape? I say no.

The Manager of The Cleveland Indians is dead...no don't worry Manny Acta, it's not you!
