Football Outsiders has released their projection on the 2010 NFL season. It's not good news if you are a Houston Texans fan. They are projecting 5.6 wins for the Texans. Here's their explanation for why the team won 9 games last season:
"1. Their notoriously fragile quarterback played 16 games for the first time in his career.
2. Their offensive line, though hit hard by injury, was fairly stable.
3.They hit a home run in the draft, resulting in one of the great defensive rookie seasons of all time.
4. One of the league’s most active safeties fell into their laps when Kansas City released Bernard Pollard.
5. Most importantly, they played a pathetically soft schedule, including just six playoff teams."
As to why the Texans will NOT have repeat success this season:
"It’s almost impossible that Houston will get these breaks again in 2010.
1. Schaub will likely miss about a quarter of the season.
2. The offensive line can expect to do more shuffling.
3. Kareem Jackson won’t live up the lofty standards set by Brian Cushing.
4. They won’t find any saviors on the unemployment line.
5. They’re facing a much harder schedule, including the NFC East, the Jets, and the Ravens.
6.And their defensive stars, who were there week in and week out last year, are guaranteed to miss more time."
Football Outsiders Playoff teams look like this.
AFC
Baltimore Ravens 11.6 wins
Indianapolis Colts 11.3
New England Patriots 10.3
Pittsburgh Steelers 9.9
NY Jets 9.8
Kansas City Chiefs 8.9

Speaking of stat geeks, John Hollinger from ESPN has re-forecast the Miami Heat's expected win total....It's kind of big. Like 68-14 big.
