Auburn RB Ben Tate (Texans 2nd round pick) could be the key to the Texans 2010 draft and perhaps the regime of Smithiak.
In reality, the Texans 2010 draft is going to be judged by the production of their 1st two picks. Having done very little in Free Agency, the Texans need to hit a HR with the Kareem Jackson and Ben Tate selections. I am very high on Ben Tate. I happen to think he is going to be an ultra productive back. Read this write-up on Tate on Football Outsiders.

The Texans wrapped up the 3rd day of the NFL draft the same way they started it by selecting a TE. Garret Graham was an All-Big 10 performer his last 2 years at Wisconsin. 7th round pick, Dorin Dickerson of Pitt is a huge target that head coach Gary Kubiak envisions playing WR.
In the sixth round, the Texans took a return specialist in 5 foot 5 Trindon Holiday, a world class sprint
er from LSU. Here are some highlights ofthe diminutive Holiday.
While we won't know how good each team did for a couple of years, here are my impressions on the teams that did well, and those who may need a remedial course in player evaluation.
Great Work!
Baltimore Ravens: You have to appreciate the work the Ravens have done this off season. The acquisition of Anquan Boldin for a 3rd round draft pick nailed the team's #1 need before the draft even began. Their trade back with the Broncos to acquire an additional 3rd and 4th round selection was sensational, especially when you factor in the players that were selected with those picks. (Sergio Kindle, Ed Dickson) Kindle dropped because some teams are concerned that he might need to have micro-fracture surgery on his knee. With the Ravens already strong at OLB they have the time to wait for Kindle to get back to 100%. Dickson is a great down the field threat at TE and should allow the Ravens to move on with Todd Heap after the 2010 season. Terrance Cody and Arthur Jones are capable nose tackles who should ably spell Haloti Ngata.
Seattle Seahawks: The Hawks got the best OL and the best safety in the draft IMHO. (Russel Okung, Earl Thomas) I also like the acquisitions of Leon Washington and Lindale White as a RB tandem. Golden Tate can help this team immediately as a kick returner though there is some doubt about whether he has the top end speed to seperate himself from defense at WR. I'm not big on Charlie Whitehurst, so I am a bit surprised that the team did not draft a QB in this draft.
Dallas Cowboys: Taking a flyer on Dez Bryant was inspired. LB Sean Lee was a knee injury at Penn State away from being a 1st round draft pick. He will start immediately at ILB. Jamar Wall was a nice late round pick as a developmental safety.
Oakland Raiders: I thought the Raiders hit a HR with their 1st 2 selections. (ILB Rolando McClain, DT Lamar Houston) The acquisition of QB Jason Campbell from Washington gives this team a fighting chance in 2010.
New England Patriots: The Patriots get bonus points for acquiring a 1st and a 2nd round pick for next year's draft while acquiring useful players like Aaron Hernandez, Brandon Spikes, and Taylor Price.
What was THAT?
Jacksonville Jaguars: Universally the Jags selection of Tyson Alulalu at #10 was met with disbelief. One of the least talented teams in the NFL might not have acquired anyone who can help this season.
Buffalo Bills: I like CJ Spiller, but the Bills had bigger needs than RB. They did nothing to address the absence of a QB on this football team. It would be stunning if this team found its way out of the cellar in the AFC East.
Carolina Panthers: The Panthers cornered the market on crappy overrated QB's taking both Jimmy Claussen and Tony Pike. They gave up a 2011 #2 draft pick to select a developmental WR in Armanti Edwards and did not address the departure of Julius Peppers on the DL.
A Texans QB finally cracked the top 10 for the John Madden Video Game series. Props Matt Schaub!

Why wait for NBA free agency to see what the Knicks would look like with Lebron James. NBA 2K10 simulated next year with the Knicks acquiring both Lebron James and Dwayne Wade. It's a good ending for NY and not a bad year for the Rockets either.
